You are allowed to reuse the original post for your app, but it would be preferable to make a new post. However, it is completely up to you.

As for your second point, that does depend. If anything drastic has affected the character's history and personality, then we would like to know that. Otherwise, it is not mandatory for you to make note of the canon changes, but certainly preferred.
