Hi, Luc!

It isn’t so much the traits have changed as the team has made it clearer and easier to sort characters into monsters. When we ask for revisions on certain traits, it’s rarely a judgment of how well you can write your character! Usually, it’s so we can dig at the meat of what you’re going for so we can achieve a best fit for your character to a monster type.

Revisions requests are usually meant to just clarify some traits before acceptance. If you’d like to avoid a revisions request, the best way to approach a personality trait list is to ask yourself whether you are able to assign a specific monster type to that trait in good conscience. Traits are intended to be intrinsic parts of a character’s personality, all of which can be informed and justified by mental illnesses, life experiences, etc. Transient emotional experiences, mental illnesses, and upbringing can all affect personality traits, but they are not personality traits on their own.

We hope this helps with understanding where we’re coming from, and how you can select better traits to describe your characters. We will be happy to add clarification to the application page in time for the next application cycle. Keep an eye on the patch notes, and thank you for the heads up!
