spoilers for the study in emerald twist in this question!

Hi, I have a question regarding whether a certain character is appable!

So, Study in Emerald is a short story Sherlock Holmes pastiche set in an England that's been invaded by Lovecraftian horrors, who are now the ruling class, and everyone sort of just gets by knowing the world is ruled by Cthulhu, Nyarlathotep, etc, and their relatives are the nobility. The story follows a consulting detective and his ex-army roommate as they investigate the murder of one of the green-blooded inhuman princes. The murderer turns out to be an actor calling himself Sherry Vernet and his playwright/doctor friend, who flee at the end of the story, leaving a letter for the detective.

The twist is, the consulting detective and sharpshooter are Moriarty and Moran, and the terrorist murderer is Holmes with Watson as an accomplice. Holmes and Watson show up on-page for one scene, with Holmes in character as his actor persona, and the letter of course also exists.

My question is: does this version of Sherlock Holmes have enough canon to be appable? While he is clearly and explicitly a personality-consistent AU of Sherlock Holmes, who has plenty of canon material to work from and wouldn't be headcanon, his appearance in this particular story is fairly brief, though he does describe about as much of his own history as we get in the books.

Thank you guys!
