Note: You will need to indicate in this thread which character will be utilizing neutral protection before it can be used in-game.

On a date of your discretion, Lorraine will hear a strange beeping noise from her laptop, like that of a microwave timer. Although it is slow in tempo, the sound will not cease until she interacts with the device. At her first keystroke, the screen will blue out, filling with garbled scrolling text. This will last for several seconds before the reverse waterfall will start thinning out, columns and rows emptying out once again. Some letters will hang in place, stable, and when all the moving text has wiped away, the following message will be left behind:

play a game with me?
i'll give you a prize if you win ;)

No matter what she does after that, her laptop will power down; it's clear she's meant to go to the Arcade. Once she makes the trip, bright lights will illuminate across the floor, like runners of a movie theater, leading her to a certain game machine. It appears to be a game of Clowns: two people-shaped avatars take turns on a see-saw, one launched into the air to catch colored tokens at the top of the screen while the other moves the platform. When the first falls, the other is launched into the air, and the pattern repeats. As she plays, Lorraine will discover that she can only move the platform half the time, when the left-hand avatar is the one on the ground--she has no control over the right. The right-hand person, however, always catches her token, for this is a two-player game.

The longer she plays, the more detailed the game becomes. The identical avatars shift in shape, where hers gets a little taller, a little more feminine, a little more her, while the other seems to shrink, its pixels flickering in and out of display like static. The colored tokens change shape: some become rough pixel-hearts, others emoji-like faces. The more Lorraine's avatar captures, the higher their score. Although the game becomes faster and the number of tokens increases, Lorraine will never feel stressed; a pleasant sensation of calm will settle on her shoulders and fill her body. Intermittent encouragements like keep it up! and good job! and you're a great friend! cross the screen.

Eventually, this screen too will flicker out, replaced only with text:

that was a lot of fun
i'm glad you're my friend Lorraine
you've made friends for me too

thank you

it's lonely without friends
isn't it?

so let's keep making lots of friends together

ok?

With the game complete, Lorraine will have access to her new power and boons. But in retrospect, that wasn't a game that could be won, was it?
