God Boons

◉ NAVIGATION

GOD BOONS

INFORMATION

With the gods at war with each other, they offer tantalizing additional bonuses to their loyal followers -- but these also come with a few strings attached. Will you join a side, or remain neutral in the conflict?

Characters can be recruited in two ways: by the god, or by a god follower. The gods can open their realms to anyone at any time if a character wishes to enter. Followers always have access to their god's respective realms, and can bring in a recruit to swear allegiance.

The gods will not punish a character if they leave their side; that would only solidify their resolve to leave. However, they will remove any boons and bonuses they might have granted them. If the character rejoins, their status with be reset to entry level, and they will need to work their way up in the ranks once more.

HOW TO ALLY WITH A GOD AND RECEIVE BOONS

When a character completes a tier requirement, you can submit the form below to have them receive acknowledgment and rewards. Threads don't have to be finished at the time of submission, but they should be a good way through, and please don't handwave them entirely. You may request as many of the listed tier rewards as you like once you've reached the appropriate tier.

You may notice sections for "Offering Description" and "Reward Description". The table below is just a sample of the boons available and the requirements to get them. You don't have to do or ask for these exact things. You may choose to replace any of the listed deeds or rewards with an appropriate substitute of your own design, and they will be judged on an individual basis.

The gods favor certain traits and actions of their followers. The Fog God, for instance, values strength, freedom, and invoking fear in others. She highly encourages her children to live freely, without the inhibitions of human society. Some examples can include demonstrating the power of monsters to frighten the human populace, killing a rival in revenge, disrupting a serious occasion just for the hell of it, or generally doing things without caring for the consequences.

On the other hand, the Fourth God values cunning, subterfuge, and control. His priorities lie in furthering the technology of the peninsula, introducing progress to the world, and standing up against the Fog God. Some examples of deeds include spreading the secrets of others (especially Fog followers), manipulating monsters and/or humans to work against the Fog, or inventing some new technology.

If a character's request doesn't align enough with these ideals, their god may bestow upon them something more to their liking without warning. This is effectively an IC explanation for a request a character wouldn't make on their own. If you would like to do this, outline your request in the backfire section.

If your character wants to leave a god, you are free to do so without notice or handwave a prayer on the respective god's page. Keep in mind that leaving a god will remove all previously gained boons!

THE FOG GOD
The Fog God, so they say, is a usurper of the Day and Night gods popularly worshipped on the peninsula. It is she who brings in unsuspecting souls from other worlds and warps their bodies into monstrous forms. She is capricious and becomes jealous easily. She enjoys the chaos that currently plagues Ryslig -- both watching and causing it. It would mean the universe to her if her monsters would go out and cause some discord of their own.

Worship and Pray to the Fog

THE FOURTH GOD
The Fourth God is an artificial god created by Dr. Liewen, in an effort to make a being strong enough to combat the Fog. He was imprisoned and isolated by the Fog God, until the actions of her monsters allowed him to be freed. He now possesses a burning hatred for her and her followers, and will stop at nothing to destroy her. He is calculating and distant, and desires control of the peninsula.

Worship and Pray to the Fourth

THE KEY TO DYSTER
Those who side with the Fog God will be provided with a silver key, old and dull fog-silver. It fits in any lock, no matter the style, and opening a door with it will bring them to Dyster. They will be greeted by the people of the town, who are more than happy to see them. Here, they can stay for as long as they want, and partake in the feasting.

This is not the Dyster some arrivals may remember, and people who try to visit it on the peninsula proper will find an empty ghost town. The people in Dyster don't seem quite dead or alive, but they treat any follower of the Fog God like royalty, and they will eagerly accept new followers in their fold. They will provide them with a more than willing human sacrifice if the monster is hungry. It will calm their hunger but not indefinitely.

Those who stay for periods of time in the city may feel an unnatural loyalty to the Fog God and her cause, to the point of worship. Characters can leave by using the key against any door in town, and return to where they had first entered.
THE ARCADE'S KEYCARD
Those who side with the Fourth God will be provided an unusually modern-looking plastic card. There's no writing on the front or the back, but there is a hologram of rainbow hues on a black background that flashes wildly when the card is moved around. Insert the card on the side of a door like a slot, and they will be transported to the Arcade when they open it.

They will arrive in the grand atrium of an enormous mall and entertainment complex, all in glowing neon and glassy linoleum. Technology from various different time periods is available here, up through the early 1990s – matching the day-glo transparent-plastic aesthetic. The TVs and video games, film reels in the giant-screen theater and ballroom-sized-ball-pit balls, cannot be removed from the complex, which rivals Dyster in size, and the only shopfronts with merchandise seem to be the food court, which is free, and run by robots. It's a significant upgrade from the seedy arcade it was, before October 2022 gave the Fourth God a boost. However, the same set of large red curtains can be found, behind which lies a sterile looking room full of seated humans with strange visors who will not respond to any sort of stimuli. There is a large basin towards the back filled with water, and any time a human is killed or fed on a robot will enter and clean the area.

Those who stay for periods of time in the Arcade may feel an unnatural loyalty to the Fourth God and his cause, to the point of camaraderie. Characters can leave by pressing the card against a door and return to where they had first entered.
RESURRECTION

Loyal followers may resurrect in their god’s domain, rather than where their life ended. When they choose to leave, their god will return them to a safe place on the peninsula (at the player's discretion).

To a follower's guests, the environs may seem strange, but no harm shall come to those who awaken here. They're welcome to stay a while to recuperate, but a permanent residency would be frowned upon; eventually, they may find themselves guided out of this realm, returning back to Ryslig somewhere safe - and sometimes just within reach of the person who protected them in the first place.

TIER ONE

Tier one boons are small, and are mainly a way for the gods to give their converts a taste of what they can offer. These rewards are immediately available to anyone who pledges themselves to a god. When initially pledging to a god, it is not necessary to submit a prayer--though, if you would like to handwave a prayer, you are free to do so. Therefore, it is not necessary to include an offering for this tier.

FOG
A minor power appropriate to the Fog God (think fear, strength, destruction)

Smallest rooms in Dyster (a single bed, no window)

Resurrecting inside Dyster after 2-3 days (regardless of fog days)

A small aesthetic body modification tailored towards fear and intimidation (e.g. extra/bigger teeth, red/scarier eyes, claws if your monster doesn’t already have them)

An instinctive knowledge of how many days they have left before the hunger overtakes them
LIEWEN
A minor spell appropriate to the Fourth God (think stealth, control, invasion)

Smallest rooms in the arcade (barely a bed and a radio, you can hear the arcade outside)

Resurrecting inside the arcade after 2-3 days (regardless of fog days)

A small aesthetic cybernetic body modification (e.g. wires, circuit boards, Tron lines)

A death counter plugin on their PC that has a little image of their head with an x00 number of lives lost next to it. If a character were to die more than 99 times, it would simply start over.

TIER TWO

Tier two boons are larger, and are the first true rewards for doing a god's bidding. It represents a character being ready to dedicate themselves to a god's cause. A character might reach tier two by sacrificing a human to their god, successfully converting a neutral character, or performing public deeds in the name of their god. They also must be a follower for at least a month.

FOG
A second power appropriate to the Fog God

A bigger room in Dyster (queen-size bed, windows, storage)

Instant resurrection in Dyster after being killed.

A major body modification (e.g. flightless wings, large horns, extra limbs)

Taking on a new way to feed (flesh, energy, souls). This doesn’t replace your old one, but gives you a second option.
LIEWEN
A second spell appropriate to the Fourth God

A bigger room in the arcade (soundproof, larger, queen-sized bed)

Instant resurrection in the arcade after being killed

A modified fog form. While an alternate form assumed during fog days is available to everyone, a Fourth follower’s fog form may include cybernetic limbs or other changes appropriate to Fourth. This is a result of the Fourth God attempting to remove the Fog’s influence.

Extending the protection of the arcade to a neutral character of the follower’s choosing. That character, upon death, will resurrect in the Arcade after 2-3 days (regardless of fog days). He will never protect a Fog follower.

TIER THREE

You're getting serious. You've got your sleeves firmly rolled up and however much blood you get on your hands in the process, so be it. You've done your action and maybe you balked a little at first, but now that you know what it really takes, you're still all-in.

Tier three rewards are for truly devout followers, and it takes a great act to appease the gods enough to get here. Such acts might include a mass sacrifice of people, the successful conversion of an opposing follower, or killing an opposing follower. (Keep in mind that killing or sacrificing in self-defense, or for their own reasons, does not count - it must be expressly done for their god!)

FOG
A third major power, appropriate to the Fog God

A house in Dyster (the works)

Immortality. Only destroying the brain or the heart can kill a tier three Fog follower.

A new, alternate monster form, subject to mod approval. Some examples would include having a beefed-up fog form (go wild on the horror!), or switching at will to a closely related monster type (e.g. gargoyles into dragons).

Exchanging the cybernetic modification imparted by the Fourth God for an aesthetic monstrous modification of your choice. Please see common monster traits for details about the cybernetic modification.

Increased ferocity and strength and lowered inhibitions while in fog form.

Extending the protection of Dyster to a neutral character of the follower’s choosing. That character, upon death, will resurrect in Dyster after 2-3 days (regardless of fog days). She will never protect a Fourth follower.
LIEWEN
A third major spell, appropriate to the Fourth God

A large room in the arcade (the works)

Instantly resurrect via static in any TV or radio of your choice.

The ability to teleport from one location to another using radios. Monsters only have to touch the radio, and imagine the location where they wish to go. Note that the target location also needs a radio that is turned on.

You can regenerate missing limbs or other body parts while in the arcade, but this will take some time, is painful, and the resulting parts may have a cybernetic look to them.

Removing the biological need for conventional food (not humans), sleep, or even breathing.

Immunity to the memory loss incurred from multiple deaths. This is not a perfect reward, as Fourth is not a true god and has a higher rate of error for difficult abilities. (This is a loophole in case you still want to play out memory loss.)

PRIESTS

You will do anything in service of your god. You are theirs to use as they see fit. You know you're on the right side of history, and you'll do whatever is in your power to make sure your god prospers.

The priests of each god gain unique and powerful abilities. The abilities favored by each god are explained below, but you may request a different power instead if one suits you better. In order to obtain priesthood, a follower must be in tier three, and have been in Ryslig for at least four months. When asking for priesthood, please explain in great detail the lengths to which your character has gone for their god, and the deeds they have done in their name. These will be judged on a case-by-case basis.

Please do not ask in the god prayer boxes for ideas for a Priest offering. Priest offerings must be something you have OOCly devised yourself. You may submit a Priest form with an offering you have already come up with, request the relevant god somehow prompts your character to perform it, and then (if approved) ICly ask in the god prayer box to receive this prompt. However, things your character does entirely on their own initiative will be more highly looked upon by the gods as proof of their devotion and motivation, and are far more likely to qualify as a Priest offering.

FOG
Fog priests are instantly identifiable by their gray capes, made to resemble the Fog God’s long hair. The collar and hem of the cape are frayed, and when the wind blows through them it almost seems like parts of them trail off with it, like the fog itself...but that’s just a trick of the light, right?

When priests speak, their voices have a whisper behind them.

Fog priests may command the fog as they wish, bringing it forth where there is none and manipulating it around them. Gargoyles and trolls shrouded in fog need not fear the sun, and day-blind monsters have perfect vision. A character with a fog form may freely transform in this as well.
LIEWEN
Fourth priests do not have any set outfits, but they are given a unique marking on their hand when accepted by the Fourth. It may be a power symbol, a pattern of wires, or even a symbol from the character’s home world. Whatever it is, it will glow when other Fourth followers are near.

Fourth priests may temporarily stop time in their vicinity, affecting anyone who does not follow the Fourth God. They can also access the rsdos network at will without use of a laptop.

For the tier 1 minor spell that characters get - should we submit what we pick for that here, for mod approval?

Reward Description: Gonna list these in bullet points like some other people have done!

Retained boons:
- Lowered fog influence + weakness during fog days
- Staying in the arcade increases loyalty/adoration (does that count as a boon? It does now.)
- I'd also like to keep the caveat that using god-granted spells increases hunger drastically, if that's okay?

Tier 1:
- Spell: The ability to create a layer of dark "fog" in someone's field of vision for 30 seconds. Kind of like a dark flashbang, if you will. Or metaphysical ink.
- Cybernetic mod: Circuit patterns on his webbing (both in land and water form)
- Everything else!

Tier 2:
- Spell: Camouflage! Like octopuses do, except with a few limitations - while Marco can blend in with the background, the illusion isn't flawless and a particularly keen-eyed monster (or even a human who gets too close) will be able to tell it looks off. Additionally, it only works for up to a few minutes per day, only his coat changes colour/pattern (so he'd have to wrap up and hide his head in order to hide effectively) and he has to stand perfectly still for it to work.
- Again, everything (save for the fog form, since he doesn't have one).

Retained Fog Boons
  • Heightened Strength during the Fog
  • Desire to protect fellow Fog Followers/attack Fourth Followers
  • Adept Form Change: 'Basilisk'. For 8 hours in each 24 hour period, Noa can take the form of a Basilisk, keeping all of his abilities as a naga while gaining the ability to easily dig through the earth. Outside the fog, this form is small, about as large as an iguana (though the tail is far longer); during the fog however, this shape becomes massive and ferocious, and its total length is equal to three times his typical size.
SIDE NOTE: I did re-design that fog-basilisk form to be more snake-like due to the old boon description of them being 'three times the length'.
  • Adept Form Change: 'Humanoid Basilisk'. During the 8 hour period that he takes Basilisk shape, he may assume a humanoid form, which remains the same in appearance both in and out of the fog. With both form change abilities, the use of them causes Noa to become severely hungry however, and he must often feed immediately after using it.

  • His eyes do The Thing when he's actively doing stuff with them AKA not wearing his glasses. It doesn't allure or anything but I mean it's kind of distracting. ...Especially to himself.
    Internal Hunger Calculator
  • Tends to become more anxious and panicked as his internal clock comes to an end, and may act somewhat erratically.
    Minor Fog Power
  • 'Poison Spit' More accurately he's still injecting poison from his fangs, he just gains a bit of distance. Prolonged contact (or contact with the eyes) burns, but is only fatal if it enters the bloodstream...ingesting it, however, will cause serious problems to say the least.
    Backfire: N/A

    Character Name: Noa Kaiba

Link: ...in order to kill a Fog Follower trying to kill him
    Reward Tier: Tier Two
    Reward Description: Instant Dyster Resurrection
    Secondary Feeding Option
  • 'Energy' Curiously not linked to making eye contact; by rattling his tail, he starts off an energy drain, which intensifies in its pull the longer he rattles it.
    Major Body Modification
  • 'Hand Wings' Basically imagine if you had giant baseball gloves on your back, except they had claws at the end, and the fingers were at least still fairly narrow. The idea is that they can flare out kinda like that, but could also potentially grab something and pick it up like any hand. The catch is obviously that. They really don't act like hands so that makes mastering any kind of fine movement freaking impossible. Remember, baseball gloves. When was the last time you held a pencil with one of those things on? (I'm fine if they can't grab anything at all though)
    Queen-sized Bedroom
  • (Is there now an apartment complex in Dyster or something though I'm confused) Spacious enough for his snake-y behind to properly move around in, it is otherwise rather plain at the moment, perhaps reflecting his current insecurities regarding his alignment.
    Standard Fog Power
  • 'Trusssst In Me'; Noa can make a victim relive their worst moments, much like the glass mirrors during the glass witch event. The catch is this; first, he needs to make eye contact to initiate the spell. Second, he cannot stop talking for as long as the spell is active, unless he is still making eye contact. (He could thus alternate, however). What he talks about will affect the sort of memory the victim is re-living, so he needs to take care here as well. It gains bonus points for basically being what he tormented Seto Kaiba with for half of his arc.

Naturally, further limitations on this are the fact that Noa himself has no way of knowing exactly what memories the subject is reliving; so unless he knows someone reaaaaaally well (or takes a lucky guess), he might only succeed in making them think of, say...that time they got a paper cut.

Not very effective. (If these downsides don't quite bring it to a middle tier, I'm open to suggestions on a similar power)
Backfire: Please make coming upon all of these things as painful as possible fog mom -bats eyelashes-

Both in and out of the fog, this form is three times her typical size, with piercing legs and a tail-like lower body. Her only change within the fog is an increase in intimidation; her mouth opens in a far more disturbing manner, and much of her carapace is arranged to show off more unnatural parts of the body.
  • Adept Form Change: 'Humanoid Myrmidon'. During the 8 hour period that she takes Myrmidon shape, she may assume a humanoid form, which remains the same in appearance both in and out of the fog. Standard Fog Power
  • 'Woven Weapon'; Yuuri is able to craft and stiffen her web silk, creating blades, whips, etc. She can infuse these with her own poison (only the fatal one; none of the 'magical' ones) for a short time by soaking the threads in them, and use these weapons at her will. She is limited only by two things; her personal resources of silk and poison, and the webbing's weakness to Fire. ...Also the fact that, yknow, it's still made of webbing so a sword or shield made of this stuff isn't going to hold up too great. A whip, on the other hand...
Actually crafting the weapon DOES take time however-not to mention energy. She'll need to eat a fair bit according to what she forms out of webbing.

  • Adept Spell: 'Cassandra's Sleep'. The ability to sleep or nap in order to heal wounds, with the duration of slumber dependent on the severity of his wounds. During this sleep, he is incredibly vulnerable to attack, but may also have visions of the future-visions that, should he share them with others, will immediately be dismissed as 'false' or 'unlikely'.
  • Adept Spell: 'Skin-Changer'. Character Name: Yuriika Hakonaka
    Alignment: Fog
Offering Description: Joined in August 2015 and adepted in November 2015.
    Link: Joining and Adepting.
    Reward Tier: 1 and 2

    Reward Description:

    Old Boons

    Heightened Strength during the Fog
    Fog Form's Berserk State
Desire to protect fellow Fog Followers/attack Fourth Followers
Balrog and humanoid balrog forms - up to eight hours per day of transformation which leaves her with severe hunger

    Tier 1

Small physical change: Slightly longer fingers with sharper claws, similar to this.
Small Power: 'Cursed' claws and teeth. Wounds from them are slower to heal and infection happens easier. This isn't poison but rather an infusion of her own dark magic. Only her claws and teeth are effected by this; horns and spikes aren't.
An instinctive knowledge of how many days they have left before the hunger overtakes them

    Tier 2

Physical Change: Heavy scales that form 'natural' armor but only on her shoulders, elbows, and wrists. This leaves a majority of her body vulnerable and it looks more intimidating than functional. Something like this
Major Power: Fearful aura. Is able to project an 'aura' around herself that inspires deep fear in humans (making them more susceptible to manipulation or just fleeing). (Other monsters are only affected if the mun's agree.)
    Instant resurrection in Dyster
    A room in Dyster
The ability to feed on (human) blood.

    Retained Fourth Boons
  • Immunity from Fog Influence/Weaker state in the Fog
  • Relative immunity from taking Fog Form/ability to take Fog Form at will (See Tier 2 form)
  • Desire to protect fellow Fourth Followers/attack Fog Followers
  • Adept Spell: 'Zombie Bite'. The ability to take a bite out of a corpse killed after midnight, and from that moment control the body as their minion/servant. This effect lasts until the sun rises, at which point the corpse crumbles to dust. This spell leaves Reira considerably hungry after its effects have completed.

    Character Name: Reira Akaba
    Alignment: Fourth God
Offering Description: JOINED A GOD nbd how are you so dangerously like his actual brother tho elias
Link: Time to become a Follower
    Reward Tier: Tier 1
    Reward Description:
    Small Cybernetic Body Mod
  • Reira's runes (normally bioluminescent) carry a constant neon-like glow, dulled by his fur. The runes themselves appear to be physical cabling and sensor patches akin to the ones they represented. These marks appear on the eyespots of his wings as well (the eyespots being extensions of his mountain rune).
    Minor Spell
  • 'Vocal Mimicry' What it says on the tin, but given the need for limitation, ideas are that he can be limited to phrases and voices he's heard (like a proper mimic), or that certain distortions are carried through the voice, as if it comes over a radio or similar. Both could be coupled with the inability to do more than either call names, or call for help with these voices, as this ability is based in the common feature of wendigo in media to bear mimicry as an ability to draw in prey.
    Death Counter
  • Complete with a tiny number '2'.
    Backfire: N/A

    Character Name: Reira Akaba
    Alignment: Fourth God
Offering Description: He kind of ritualistically killed and ate a mostly human Tsukikage following old adept-ritual requirements. .......Oops.
Link: Surprisingly, being sacrificed is not the source of the ninja's god refusal.
    Reward Tier: Tier Two
    Reward Description:
    Ability to Protect One Neutral
  • Chosen Neutral: Tsukikage
    Standard Spell
  • 'Frost-Like' Able to briefly take on the form of an icy wind; rather than being limited to spans of time within a day, the ability as a whole can be triggered constantly, provided Reira is wind only for a maximum of 5 minutes, and that he takes at least five minutes between states of 'wind' before trying again. This ability, naturally, expends considerable energy; rather literally it empties his stomach whenever he becomes wind, so he is impressively hungry after using it. The movement of the wind is also tied to the direction he was moving in the first place (also any existing gales around him).
    Queen-sized Bedroom Above the Arcade
  • The room is soundproof, and rather nicely furnished. The table in particular tends to be used to 'share' his dinners with the 4th as an offering.
    Immediate Arcade Resurrection on Death
  • Will appear within the covers of his bed.
    Backfire: Cybernetic 'Fourth'-Fog Form
  • Aside from being easier to slip into unintentionally (Generally when Reira is approaching his feeding deadline, or is just plain hungry), it's changed significantly as a result of the Fourth's attempts to undo the Fog's influence...an obvious backfire as far as both He and Reira would be concerned, but regardless.

Various parts that caused Reira legitimate pain are synthetically altered with metal and gears to make them painless and easier to move, including 'retracting' metal fangs (he could not close his mouth because of these before), and metal back plating to better allow flexibility there-most significantly however, there is a quietly ticking clock over his heart, representing the sound of what is missing. (Surprisingly, Reira will be very happy with this feature)

    Character Name: Wirt
    Alignment: Fog
    Offering Description: Aligned, Adept.
Link: Aligning was offscreened, after this thread. Going adept.
    Reward Tier: Tier 2
    Reward Description:

    Retained boons:
    - Extra strength on fog days. (Basic)
    - Peryton form (Adept)
    - Humanoid version of peryton form (Adept)

    New boons:

Overall, Wirt would ask for ways to help protect himself, especially at a distance -- if pressed, he'd want to be able to tell whether someone was a threat. He would not ask for these things specifically, but this is how I would like the request to manifest:

    Tier 1 boons:

    - Fear sensing: The ability to know what a person is afraid of. This ability can only be focused on one person at a time, and the depth of this knowledge (superficial/situational vs. long-standing phobias or subjects of distress) depends on his level of active concentration.
    - Minor body modification: Sharper teeth overall, instead of just upper and lower canines -- more suited to tearing flesh.
    - Instinctive knowledge of how many days he has left before the hunger overtakes him.

    Tier 2 boons:

    - Fear manifestation: The ability to draw on someone's fears, using them to create an illusion visible only to the person in question. These are visually based, and while they are intended to provoke a feeling of genuine threat, they can not interact with a person in any physical way, or in a way that creates physical sensation. (In other words: make a person believe they are ten stories up, on a precarious ledge? Yes. Make a person believe they are actually falling from a great height? Probably not.)
    - Energy feeding: Specifically through freezing someone to death with the elemental ice magic he received from Tikbalang.
    - Instant resurrection in Dyster.

    Sorry for the delay!

The Fog God will come to Wirt in a freezing gust, blowing violently past him. However, she speaks in almost sing-song tones, clearly pleased with him:

"You have done as I asked, and I have not forgotten. Tell me what it is you desire, and I will give it to you."

When Wirt makes his requests, even if they are worded vaguely or slightly different, she will grant the boons you requested to him. They will arrive through an icy feeling in his chest, spreading all throughout his body until it feels like he may freeze solid before she speaks once more:

"Do not think I have forgotten, pet. I will endeavor to keep him safe.

With that, he will suddenly return to a "comfortable" temperature. From this point on, he will have access to all of his requested boons.

    - Increased strength on fog days (basic)
    - Wyvern form (adept)

    Tier 1:
    - Minor power: minor control of existing fires not created by her. Making campfires flare up for intimidation’s sake, cranking the heat up on a stove, doing that thing where candle flames change color for no reason except it’s kinda freaky.
    - Instinctive knowledge of how many days until the hunger hits.

    Tier 2:
    - Second power: the ability to create small, solid “embers” that can cause minor explosions. Closer to firecrackers than dynamite, they can do damage to property and people but probably won’t be lethal unless someone stands right on top of one and/or tries to eat it. They go off after 30 seconds, no more or less.

    Character Name: Madoka Kaname
    Alignment: Fog

    Retained Fog Boons:
-Madoka's stronger during the Fog (by a factor of 1.2, evidently)
-Madoka feels compelled to protect fellow Fog Followers/attack Fourth Followers (though is usually able to avoid this urge)
I'll be discarding the peryton form/humanoid, since she grew normal wings and is basically a permaperyton now. Permaton.

Offering Description: Aligned since October 2014.
    Link: Warning for death.
    Reward Tier: Tier 1
    Reward Description: Taking everything.
Minor power: Freezing mist. At will, Madoka can release an icy mist around herself, which reduces visibility of everything within. The mist is always centered on Madoka, and does not go very far (10m at most). As the mist is intensely humid, surfaces inside will become icy and slick. The ice inside is extremely cold; it is very painful to humans, though not lethal unless kept for a long period of time, and ranges from uncomfortable to painful for non-undead monsters. This is not the Fog God's fog, and as such does not affect monsters in any way normal fog would.

Minor body modification: Madoka trails light wisps of fog wherever she goes, mostly as a "path" left behind her. This is purely cosmetic, and would act in any way as the Fog God's fog would.

Backfire: Not a backfire per se, but Madoka will ask for this power specifically as "a way to protect my friends."

Offering Description: Adept since August 2015.
    Link: Warning for zombies.
    Reward Tier: Tier 2
    Reward Description: Taking everything.
Medium power: Reanimation. If Madoka kills a human being and holds on to their body (or what's left of it), she may reanimate the remains as a nonsentient undead body. This body decays as a normal would, and is held together/acts through magic (so a skeleton would not fall apart from lack of muscle). She may have up to ten (10) undead at any one time; if she attempts to animate more past this, the earliest one animated will crumble into dust. (I am fine with restricting the number of undead kept or limiting this power to once per day if necessary; if she can have fewer limits, I'm also fine with that!)

The bodies have no intelligence or way to communicate information to others. Further, they will not understand any particularly complex commands. For instance, "scrub the floor" and "attack the human" would be usable commands, but "bake these cookies for 30 minutes" would not. The bodies are sluggish and bordering on useless where combat is concerned; an average and unassisted human would be able to take one out easily, provided they have some sort of weapon or stick nearby.

Major body modification: Similar to her fog form, the area that used to hold Madoka's soul gem collapses into a permanent hole (4-5 inches diameter) in her chest. This hole appears to be natural, as if her body initially developed with a large hole in her upper chest; no viscera is visible, and the sides of the hole are covered with skin. The mountain rune overlaying this remains where it is; it simply curves inward and coat the skin bordering the hole. The hole is mundane aside from her Major Power and new feeding method; if someone wanted to stick their arm through it, nothing would happen except for Madoka feeling immensely awkward.

New way to feed: Madoka gains the ability to feed through draining a human being's fear (a subset of energy feeding), provided that she inspired that fear herself. Greater terror feeds her more; whereas a human just seeing her fog form might provide a few minutes' worth of energy, a human panicking over a long and sustained chase in which she toys with them might provide week. If possible, I'd like this to be a part of her Major Power below. However, even if this is not acceptable, the fear will drain visibly from people into the hole in her chest.

Backfire: Once again, not a backfire, but Madoka will request this as a power that "lets her make new friends."

Offering Description: Madoka will become a zealot by killing Fiddleford McGucket as a intentionally offered sacrifice for the Fog God.
    Link: Warning for complete failures.
    Reward Tier: Tier 3
    Reward Description: Taking everything.
Major power: Drain. Madoka gains the ability to absorb various things from other people. When Madoka absorbs something, it forms a visible energy that is then drawn into the hole in her chest. This absorption rapidly drains her target of whatever it is she is choosing to take, and gives Madoka that thing for the next ten minutes. She may only drain an unwilling person once per day per person, and she may only have one thing absorbed at any given time.

Further, Madoka can only drain a clearly defined subset of things. I'd really like this power to have a few different applications, so I've listed several possibilities below in order from "things I really want to keep" down to "things that might be kind of neat if you're cool with it I guess":

Emotions: Madoka may drain a specific emotion from her target into herself for ten minutes. She may only take one emotion at a time; thus she may drain a terrified target of fear, but confusion would remain in them. She feels the emotion as strongly as her target was feeling, and cannot choose to return the emotion early, though she can try to work through it while she has it. (If her alternate feeding method is approved, taking fear will only sustain her if the fear was inspired directly by her.)

Wounds: Madoka may drain a target of their injuries, taking them onto herself instead for ten minutes. As an undead creature, she is significantly better suited to many types of wounds and injuries than some other monsters; however, she can still die from these wounds if they are severe enough. If Madoka dies while someone's wounds are in her, the wounds do not return after the ten minute period.

Life: Madoka may drain a target of their very life itself, becoming alive once again for ten minutes while her target becomes undead. Neither her nor her target go through any mental changes or gain any additional powers/weaknesses (aside from from those granted by being undead) from this swap; Madoka remains in every other way a wendigo, and her target remains in every other way what they are normally. This can be as painful on both sides as the involved party would like.

As an example, if Madoka drained a gargoyle of its life, her organs would begin to function normally again, her blood would start circulating, and she would need to breathe. Similarly, the gargoyle's organs would temporarily stop functioning, their blood would cease to circulate, and they would no longer need to breathe. However, the gargoyle would still turn to stone in daylight, and Madoka would still be frozen to the touch and ravenous.

Physical power: Madoka may drain a target of its strength, speed, or vitality and gain it instead for ten minutes. For instance, if she drained a troll of strength, that troll might have the strength of a human, and Madoka might have the troll's strength instead. In the case that Madoka absorbs someone's "vitality" or "good health" while in a near-death state, if she is not healed within the ten minutes time she has bought herself, she will immediately return to that near-death state afterwards.

Supernatural abilities: Madoka may drain a target of a specific ability, such as a troll's heat vision or a vampire's ability to turn into a bat, for ten minutes. She will have no idea how to use any of the things she takes without long periods of intentional training with them, and will have no "instinct" to guide her in their use.

Physical attributes: Madoka may absorb a single, clearly defined feature from a human or other monster for ten minutes. For instance, she could take the scorpion tail from an arachnid, or the large wings of a faerie. Once again, she will have no idea how to use any of the things she takes without long periods of intentional training with them, and will have no "instinct" to guide her in their use. Madoka cannot use this power to kill someone - for instance, she could not steal someone's heart and let them die - and if use of her power would reasonably kill a person, they will be kept alive and fully functional for the duration of those ten minutes instead.

For example: if Madoka steals a person's "face", she would wear their face for ten minutes while they would be left completely featureless. However, they would still be able to breathe and function normally, aside from an inability to speak without a mouth.

Alternate form: I would like Madoka's fog form to become "fully functional" once again; that is, all the eyes will become capable of seeing, the mouths will all be capable of speaking and eating separately and controllably, and the hands on her wings will all be capable of functioning independently. This will take a long amount of practice to get used to, and it will still be a fog-only form.

Neutral protection: If this can be changed later, Madoka will make her request later; however, if it needs chosen now, Madoka will request that Homura Akemi be given this protection if she ever shows up again.

Backfire: Madoka will request a power that "lets her work with her friends to do whatever she has to."

    Character Name: Fiddleford McGucket
    Alignment: Fourth God
Offering Description: Killing a Fog Follower in hopes she'll stop being Evil and that Computer Dad will be proud
    Link: Here. Ongoing!
    Reward Tier: Tier 3
Reward Description: Taking everything this go 'round!

For the removal of conventional biological needs, I would like him to no longer need to sleep. 24/7 devotion! However, he will still have the ability to feel physically tired if he pushes himself too hard for too long. Instead of sleep, he will need to literally recharge under his heat lamp every now and again to keep his energy levels up. Being an electrical snake sure is fun.

As for the spell, I'm going to be bringing back something I brought up on the original boon suggestion post: Scrying.

To scry requires water (as nagas have Problems with the more traditional mirrors). While he could theoretically use any water with a reasonably placid surface, a bowl of it is preferred instead of, say, a puddle. If the Fourth wishes to provide him with a special bowl for this purpose that would be rad and he'd treasure it forever, but it's not required.

He must fill the bowl with water and then add three drops of his venom and three drops of his blood. The water will go perfectly flat and begin to glow much like a computer screen. He must then concentrate very hard on who or what he wishes to see. He cannot scry into the future or the past, only into the present, and what the water shows him may not always be clear. Oddly enough, sometimes it will have audio or video distortion like a TV might, sometimes to the point of being almost impossible to make out (this is so that anyone who does not want their character to be able to be spied on has a way to opt out of it, should it ever come up). If he tries to scry into places protected by magic and particularly by the Fog's magic, such as Dyster, it will blare static for a few moments and then go dark.

If you want to accept this ICly in response to the prayer I left in the Fourth's prayer box and kill two birds with one stone (instead of responding there AND writing up a separate message from the Fourth here), go right ahead.

    Minor Body Mod:
Whenever Touya changes form between his day, night, (dormant) travel mode, and fog mode, his body crackles with blue sparks as it glows. This also applies to emotive shifting, blue sparks also appearing whenever he grows angry. These sparks of lightning don't hurt someone else much more than a static shock.

    Minor Power:
Iron Tail. Similar to the "increased mass" example power but more flashy, Touya's tail will harden and hit with more impact. Considering monster strength, he would be breaking concrete without taking too much damage to his tail.

    Character Name: Noa Kaiba
    Alignment: Fog
Offering Description: The killing-and presentation-of one of the 4th's most vocal, Marco Evangelisti; partially self-defense, mostly 'fine that's it I will be the fogmonsterdemonfollower you're accusing me of being'.
Link: This is probably the Greatest Example of Marco digging himself a hole I've ever seen.
    Reward Tier: Tier 3
    Reward Description:
    A House in Dyster
  • A small cottage that backs into a rock wall; most of the house is in fact located within the stone, and there is a small covered garden for his 'pets', in addition to a natural hot spring within his property. There's a (fairly small) guest room in case he chooses to offer a neutral protection. Otherwise, the house is somewhat simple, with most of the shiny features being that garden and hot spring. #snakepriorities

    Alternate Monster Form
  • Bakunawa, a serpent-beast who supposedly ate the moon; in some legends of its origin, it was in fact once a naga.

The exact details for this design aren't quite set in stone, but this is what I have for it's general appearance and abilities, subject to approval, clipping, or outright rejection if I totally missed what an alternate monster was meant to be.

Bakunawa is an enormous, wide-mouthed serpent, the ends of its jaws stretching incredibly far back. It has great whiskers, and hidden eyes, and is lined with various 'wires' along the body which sense heat as his heat vision would have done. The serpent additionally has two sets of enormous fins; which brings me to its abilities.

I decided not to bother keeping the Bakunawa's gills, as undersea breathing and resistance seemed to be an ability restricted to kelpie and mer, and in the past I've noted that the tendency with new abilities and monster forms is to keep those sorts of powers within their own box to keep things fair. However, if it is alright, I would thus like for the Bakunawa form to have these two abilities instead; first, much like a regular sea snake, Noa would be able to hold his breath for immense periods of time, the stretch of time shrinking according to how much energy he has. (Since Noa has no rattle in this form, there's no cheating to take in energy while using this form.) The second is related to a card he used in his series, 'Shinato's Ark'. The Ark of Shinato was able to allow Noa to hold monsters within the hull, protecting them from harm and releasing them back to battle. Thus, the idea for Bakunawa would be that he would potentially be large enough to carry someone in his mouth, and release them later on. There wouldn't be any magical boosts involved here; it's just a really big mouth.

Relating to that, a potential weakness; due to its great size, the Bakunawa form is functionally useless on land, as it's simply too massive to properly move-which means that realistically Noa would be best using it with the idea of remaining stationary, or as some over-sized living boat.

He can bring the fight to them, this way? Obviously if gills for some reason are allowed then leviathan jokes are better than boat jokes, but I'm playing it safe here with my requests

    Major Fog Power
  • 'White Lightning' - The ability to manipulate electricity. Typically drawn from electronic sources, the Fog's intention would likely be to draw it from the natural clash of hot and cold in the air, and the electricity utilized in Noa's magic is far stronger when it is formed in this manner. He is additionally able to spit lightning bursts, though he cannot manipulate the lightning from such attacks. you can't make me stop referencing blue eyes yOU CAN'T

    Immortality
  • His heart must be destroyed in order to kill him. Alternatively, one must cut off his head. (No, the snake heads don't count! That would be silly.) For maximum Snake-Head Joke potential however, bisecting him at the waist also counts. On top of that, if he's sustaining any serious injuries without dying, they won't heal unless he spends time in Dyster...which would naturally cause a LOT of problems if he put it off.

    Neutral Protection Boon
  • No Chosen Target at Present.

aboyandhiscar: (someone's about to get punched!)

    [personal profile] aboyandhiscar 2016-07-10 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
    Character Name: Mike Chilton
    Alignment: Fog!
Offering Description: Nothing, he's just willingly joining in as of early July 2016
    Link: Courtesy of IV.
    Reward Tier: One, Basic!
    Reward Description:
Only one minor power, he won't be getting any other boons:

Support Spell as discussed here! He'll be able to give a stat/adrenaline boost temporarily to anyone not Fourth aligned, with the bonus of the target becoming slightly more aggressive/blood-thirsty/hype at player's discretion (so however minor they feel comfortable!) and will remain so so long as Mike is in the area. Has to be done via touch! Mike will probably do it accidentally a couple times before realizing he can control it.

Backfire: See descrip^ Also for Mike himself, being fog aligned will gradually make him start to enjoy 'normal' kills in the fog vs his more humane tactics.

    Character Name: Yuri
    Alignment: Fog
Offering Description: A very violent and very dead anti-monster protester (who he even decorated all nicely and dedicated to her at the end isn't he nice).
Link: The rest of the thread, aka "yuri vs npc no items final destination".
    Reward Tier: 2
    Reward Description:
    >Bigger house + instant resurrection

    >He'll be taking on souls as the additional feeding method, because ahaha canon soul stealing references.

    >Body modification: Would it be possible instead of gaining an extra body part, for his carapace (which covers pretty much all of him from the neck down) to gain some level of armour value? If that's too much given how much of him it covers, then I'd also be okay with the petal-like covers he has over his wings gaining some kind of armour value instead of having their current effectiveness of "basically tissue paper".

    >Second power: A psychoactive dust he can scatter from his wings, in bursts over about a room-sized area (using the meduim hypnosis spell for the 4th as a guideline for range, though if it should be different then please do correct me on that). This would cause a hallucinatory, fear-escalating state that would make scary things scarier and normal things seem Pretty Scary as well so just hooray, freaking out about everything ever. I'm not sure what the duration and cooldown on something like that should be at this level, either, though my initial suggestion is something similarly formatted to the fairy dust powers fae normally have (rather than once a day and one hour, twice a day and half an hour, or something like that).
Backfire: If Yuri gets the full carapace armour bonus I might have him unpleasantly shed his original carapace to announce the change. Because why not.
Actually even if he just gets the wing ones, he can shed his weird wing petals for the new ones anyway. /jazz hands
