Rather than producing bugs that would turn into white goo when destroyed, this would instead turn the person into a swarm of normal bugs with bug-like intelligence, effectively as an upgrade to the faerie's ability to transform a person into a single bug.
As requested, this spell would initiate flu-like symptoms in humans, and with player permission can also induce flu-like venom effects on other monsters.
Additionally, as a tier 2 alternate feeding method, Zan may acquire the ability to consume these bugs for sustenance. Zan would need to consume the entire swarm in order to fully satiate his hunger.
For a tier 3 fog boon, Zan may purchase an upgrade to this spell, which would allow other monsters to feed on the bugs as well.
