MANA REWARDS

Once you've started earning bonus coins, your characters will find a small canvas satchel either in their pocket or under their pillow. The satchel will contain the number of bonus coins earned. Each coin is copper and looks very much like a penny except it has the character's monster stamped on it. The satchel also contains a small scroll featuring a single word: AGIMAT. Reading this word will summon Mana, who will gladly accept these coins as payment for magical favors, whether that be summoning an item from your character's home or bestowing unto them an amazing new power.
Receiving a reward isn't always easy, however. To focus her magic, Mana will send characters on a quest, usually to gather materials or perform a ritual. To receive a mod-custom quest, you must purchase a reward at 80 coins or higher. This is limited to one per player per month. Feel free to write your own quests for lower-cost purchases if you'd like to give your character something fun to do.
Mana can only be summoned by each character once a month. A new toplevel for each month will be posted where you can leave your requests, and the threads will be frozen at the end of the month, once all requests have been processed. Below are categories of rewards for characters to choose from, with a general idea of how much each thing might cost. If you're unsure which tier your reward belongs on, ask below in the relevant thread.
(Please note: the Mana Rewards received a major overhaul and fresh page in November 2023. We've kept the old Mana Rewards page on record, so you can review your character's past purchases! However, please keep in mind that mod answers to questions there will likely be outdated! The FAQ compilation on this page will always be leading.)
DISCOUNTS
Having recently become a bit more business-savvy, Mana is now offering regular discounts to monsters on various items! Every other month, different request categories will have a 20% discount. Wow! When putting in a request, make sure to note the discount in your comment. The schedule is as follows:ITEMS
This section excludes weapons; additionally, advanced tech (think super futuristic/sci-fi, not necessarily cell phones) falls into the same category as magical items. Magical items may be imbued with up to four magical spells.
10 - An item from home that can easily fit in someone's hand. You may make it magical and imbue it with a spell for an additional 50 coins.
20 - An item from home up to a meter tall/wide. You may make it magical and imbue it with a spell for an additional 40 coins.
40 - An item from home up to three meters tall/wide. An item from home up to three meters tall/wide. You may make it magical and imbue it with a spell for an additional 20 coins.
60 - A magical item from home with a single spell/effect it already has in canon.
60 - A magical item from Ryslig. Mods will design the item, but you should give us an idea of what it should do/be used for.
20 - A second spell or effect for your item.
40 - A third spell or effect for your item.
80 - A fourth spell or effect for your item.WEAPONS
As with items, weapons may be imbued with up to four magical spells. Ammo availability will be determined on an individual basis.
20 - A mundane weapon from home. You may make it magical and imbue it with a spell for an additional 40 coins.
60 - A magical/high-tech weapon from home with a single spell/effect it already has in canon.
60 - A magical weapon from Ryslig. Mods will design the weapon, but you should give us an idea of what it should do/be used for.
20 - A second spell or effect for your weapon.
40 - A third spell or effect for your weapon.
80 - A fourth spell or effect for your weapon.PETS/CREATURES
Any creature or monster summoned from Mana will come with their summon item (e.g., a Pokémon would come with a Pokéball, a demon would have their summoning catalyst, etc.). Characters may have as many non-magical pets as they can buy, but only one (1) magical one. Magical pets are limited to a single ability slot, and these abilities do not work on monsters. The prices listed below are in mundane-magical format; the first number is the price for a base pet, the second is the price for a magical pet.
20-60 - A pet from home that is the size of a small dog.
30-60 - A pet from home that is the size of a large dog.
50-70 - A pet from home that is the size of a human.
60-80 - A pet from home that is the size of a horse.
100-120 - A pet from home that is the size of a hippo. This is the largest size allowed; pets bigger than this in canon will be shrunk upon arrival in Ryslig.MONSTER CHANGES -- TEMPORARY
20 - The ability to switch between human and monster for a month. The spell allows the character to voluntarily switch every two days, and does not stop cravings. The human form does not retain any monster abilities, aside from the ability to switch forms.
20 - Turn human for a month. This eliminates cravings. You may revert at any time, but this will void the remaining duration.
20 - Change to a different monster form for one month. Temporary monster form is chosen by the player.
40 - Change to a different monster form for two months. Temporary monster form is chosen by the player.
60 - Change to a different monster form for four months. Temporary monster form is chosen by the player.MONSTER CHANGES -- PERMANENT
20 - A minor modification to a character's appearance (e.g., gain a few inches, change eye color, sharper teeth, web toes, etc)
40 - Change to a different feeding source (e.g., meat, blood, souls). You will be gifted with the necessary modification for that source (claws and teeth for meat, a spell to drain souls, etc).
80 - A functional body modification (e.g., flight-capable wings, second pair of limbs, etc.)
80 - Weakness exchange (e.g., exchanging sunlight weakness for cold weakness). The player must provide the weakness being exchanged, but either the player or mods may submit a weakness to replace it.
100 - Change your monster type (mods randomize from 7 player-provided options)
120 - Change your monster type (mods randomize from 3 player-provided options)
120 - Ability to switch between monster and human form once per day. This does not stop cravings, and no monster powers carry over to the human form.
150 - Change your monster type (player's choice).POWERS/ABILITIES
60 - A minor spell or ability, possibly with a time limit (e.g., walk on water for 20 minutes, double strength bonus usable once a day).
80 - Upgrade an existing monster ability.
80 - A summon, or a power tied to a summon (e.g., Stands, Personas). See the FAQ for details.
80 - An intermediate spell or ability. This largely covers powers that don't have a lot of restrictions, but don't affect monsters besides the possessor of the ability.
120 - A major spell or ability.
60 - An additional Travel or Stealth form, no time limit, but restricted to the bestiary's allowed species. (e.g., a rat Pooka with an extra rabbit form)
60 - An additional Travel or Stealth form outside the allowed species, restricted to one consecutive hour a day.
80 - An additional Travel or Stealth form outside the allowed species, no time limit.BUILDINGS
20 - A structure from home no bigger than a two-bedroom apartment.
30 - A structure from home no bigger than a five-bedroom house.
40 - A structure from home no bigger than a mansion.
50 - A significant landmark built for your character (e.g. a castle, housing complex, massive bronze statue).
60 - A small town (≤80 small houses).
80 - A magical location or structure no bigger than a five-bedroom house, or the enchantment of a preexisting Ryslig location.
120 - A large city (≤400 houses) that comes with a statue of the character.
20 - A second spell or effect for your magical location.
40 - A third spell or effect for your magical location.
80 - A fourth spell or effect for your magical location.SUBMIT YOUR CLAIM
When describing your reward, please be as detailed as possible. Many lower-tier rewards are self-explanatory, but high-tier rewards such as powers, magical items/weapons, and monster modifications especially should be outlined clearly. The mods will be happy to work with you to ascertain a fun and balanced power set.If your character wouldn't outright ask for the reward you want them to have, have them ask for something else and then fill out the backfire field with what you actually want them to have. (Mana is not as good at summoning as Tikbalang, and characters who don't follow her quests to the letter risk the ritual going wrong.) Your backfire should be something that could conceivably result from the actual request.
Please be advised that mods reserve the right to modify or veto a reward that is too incongruous with the setting. When submitting your form, please be sure to reply to the current month's header, as opposed to posting an entirely new comment.

(frozen comment) FAQ (CAN I BUY THIS?)
WHAT (ELSE) CAN I BUY?
Can I buy a real world piece of media, which would contain appable characters? (e.g. the Star Wars movies)
No. Mana will bring in an off-brand version of this canon. Instead of Stargate, you receive Starhole. Instead of the Twilight books, you receive the Sundown books, etc.
Can I buy something belonging to another character, or from another character's canon?
Yes, but with limitations! Anything that would reveal private information about the character it belongs to would not be purchasable without that information redacted. Diaries, computers, etc... belonging to another character would contain no personal information if bought by someone else (except as a gift, in which case the item would go directly to the recipient). If a character were to buy the house of their mentor who has a secret penchant for murder, the bodies they stash in the basement would not come with the house if they did not already know of their existence. Similarly, buildings with secret rooms will not come with those if they were not already aware of them prior to purchase. While this is non-negotiable in cases where only one character is in game, exceptions can be made for cases where both characters are currently in game with the permission of all players involved.
What if I want to buy something that a character in game has already bought through Mana previously?
This doesn't matter! Anything from home bought through Mana is technically a duplicate. That said, when buying items belonging to a character currently in game the permission of that player must be sought first. This applies to both gifts and items belonging to others purchased for your own character.
Would it be possible to pay Mana to add an enchantment or power to an existing item, mundane or otherwise?
Yes. To enchant an existing item, you would have to pay the difference in coins. To clarify, an item purchased from Mana for 20 coins could be upgraded to having a single magical effect for an additional 40, and so on. For a completely mundane item obtained in Ryslig without coins (say, a frying pan) you would need to pay the full price, as the "base price" is 0.
On occasion, there will be instances where a character may receive 'an item worth 10 coins'. For example, as a gift in our December event. Despite the hypothetical worth of 10 coins, these items will also have the base price of 0 when upgrading them with an enchantment.
Can I buy a one-use-only item from Mana?
Mana normally doesn't deal in one-use magic items. She mostly sells the sort of objects that will stick around afterwards, retaining their magic. If you're certain you'd like a one-use item, please contact the mods and ask whether this can be worked into a small event, such as an arrival log, change log or player plot. This will not cost you any coins, but will require you to write a significant portion (if not all) of the IC and OOC portions of this event.
Would it be possible to buy a magical item that could weaken the influence of god power in a given area? (e.g. disabling god boons)
Yes, this is something Mana can create, with limitations. We're very flexible and willing to work with you on this. For example, As a 60-coin item, it would either have an incredibly limited range (think a moderately large personal space bubble, something like 4-5 feet) or (for a larger range) would have to be subject to recharge times. It would also not be able to stay active without the "owner" nearby, to avoid it being used by other characters.
Can I buy (super advanced) technology from my character's canon?
Yes, but beware. We differentiate between mundane present day technology and the advanced type. A smartphone counts as a mundane item and is only 10 coins. A character's canon laptop with all the files on it is 20 coins. Neither of these will be able to connect to any networks, so the smartphone can't make any calls, and the canon laptop won't connect to any wifi or the typical Ryslig communication network.
If you wish to bring in something more advanced like an AI, or a laboratory outfitted with extremely advanced tech, it counts as 'magical' for the purposes of calculating the price. These sorts of things are judged on a case by case basis, and may require further limitations to keep the setting balanced.
Can I buy a billion solars? A magic checkbook that always pays out the amount? Limitless diamonds?
No, sorry. Mana will never agree to deals which could, hypothetically, break Ryslig's economy.
Do we need to buy ammo for weapons?
Like many of the everyday living components in Ryslig, you can handwave making or purchasing ammo for your weapon. Weapons with unusual or hard-to-find ammo will be discussed at the time of purchase; in many cases, it's fine to just "have" ammo at all times. The same rule applies to things like, for example, film for a polaroid camera.
Can Mana bring in pets which have passed away in canon?
Sadly, Mana is unable to bring the dead back to life. She can, however, bring the animal in from a point in time before it died.
Mana can bring in Pokémon, can she also bring in Digimon? Where is the limit for a pet's intelligence/personality?
Pets summoned by Mana will, as a rule, behave like animals. Intelligence and a sense of identity greater than, say, the smarter and more independent dog breeds is not permitted. This means that any creature smarter than that, who could basically be considered an appable character, cannot be brought into the world of Ryslig by Mana. As an example, Digimon have such a high level of sapience (and often even their own character development arcs), they would be considered appable characters and thus cannot be bought. The same applies to specific high-intelligence Pokémon with defined personalities, such as Mewtwo, Team Rocket's Meowth, Mystery Dungeon Pokémon, etc.
Can I buy a 'pet' which did not belong to the character in canon?
Yes. As long as the requested creature is within the size & spell limits, and could not be reasonably considered appable, any creature from your character's home world is permitted.
If a character were to buy a pet that required a tank (like a tarantula or a fish), would it cost extra to get the tank and accessories that they need?
Yes, that would cost extra. However, unless you're looking at extremely modern or futuristic technology, these sorts of accessories can be bought in local pet stores with solars.
Can we buy a custom/magic pet which originates from Ryslig? Would it have to be mod-designed?
Yes, you can spend coins on a Ryslig-originated custom pet. You can design it yourself, following the power and coin stipulations in place for pets that originate out of game. Once you have designed it, mods will have to approve it. The price is determined on a case-by-case basis, but usually, when it has no real abilities it will depend on the pet's size.
Can Mana move my player location elsewhere on the peninsula?
This will be judged on a case by case basis.
Can Mana enchant a location which doesn't belong to my character?
No. Your character can contribute to a group purchase enchantment, but the current owner of the location must be involved as well. Mana will not enchant any non-player locations (Bavan, Plaga's Peak, Lake Dala, etc.).
Can I buy an island? What will happen?
If you decide to bring in a canon island, or ask Mana to create something custom for you, you have two options. Either it's dropped somewhere along Ryslig's coast in the ocean, or a small body of water is created on the mainland to hold this island. The amount of water surrounding it will be closer to a moat than a full lake.
Can I buy [insert magic ability here]?
Mana's powers are very versatile. She can grant characters defensive, offensive and even more personal spells. These do not need to come from a character's canon; you're free to invent your own magic spells! If you're unsure whether the ability you're hoping for is something Mana can grant, please ask us in the Questions thread and provide as much detail as possible. Keep in mind, we will not design spells for you. You must tell us exactly what it is that you want.
Can I buy a magical ability which manifests inside another character, or otherwise specifically affects/punishes another character?
Unfortunately, even with OOC permission from the other player, Mana will not use her magic to directly give another character something against their will. With that logic, characters could easily purchase punishments for others. However, a character could purchase a spell to cast that causes the desired effect on the other person, or a magic item that they could use for this.
Can I buy a 'blanket power' with several uses, like for example, the Force? Mana-fueled magic? Alchemy? Element bending? Or a wand which is capable of casting any magic spell?
No. Something like the Force, alchemy or mana doesn't exist in Ryslig as a force to tap into. Furthermore, due to the nature of these sorts of overarching powers, we believe that it goes beyond what we're willing to allow as a regain. However, this is always judged on a case by case basis, so please ask us beforehand if you aren't sure whether this ability encompasses too much.
In cases where it's impossible to bring the powering force itself into Ryslig, it's instead possible to mimic these sorts of powers by asking Mana for comparable spells/abilities. In order to avoid power-gaming, we would need to break these requests down into several distinct powers. For example, moving objects would be one ability, while making something explode would be another. In the case of waterbending, manipulating water would be separate from healing with it. Each of these powers would be priced accordingly. A wand when purchased as a magical item would only come with one spell, with any others needing to be purchased separately, for a limit of four spells total.
Can I buy an upgrade to an ability I purchased earlier?
Yes. If you bought a minor ability for 60 coins, then later wish to upgrade it to a major spell (fewer- or no- limitations, wider use, more 'oomph'), you would pay the remaining 60 coins in order to get that. Please discuss the details of this upgrade with the mod team beforehand!
Can Mana make it so that monster powers are less 'taxing' on my character, so that they won't get hungry as fast when they use them?
No, that's not a power Mana can grant. You might have more luck with high tier god boons.
Can I buy precognitive powers for my character? (fortunetelling, etc.)
No. We feel that the malleable nature of journal RP makes precognitive powers difficult to make work in a way that is neither infomod-y, nor so unpredictable/vague that it's not worth having the power. It is, however, possible to purchase an ability to tell what's going on in the present, elsewhere on the peninsula. This would cost 60 coins, either as a minor spell with usage limitations, or an enchantment on an object.
Mana can swap weaknesses out for others (80 coins), but can she remove them entirely, if only on a temporary basis?
No, weaknesses cannot be completely neutralized, not even temporarily. They can be temporarily swapped for other weaknesses at a discounted price. The cost would be the same as if it were a temporary monster change: 20 coins for 1 month or 60 coins for 4.
Mana is capable of making modifications to a character's appearance, but can she also remove certain (mandatory) physical traits?
Mana can't remove a monstrous trait altogether, or replace it with a human equivalent. However, she'd be able to switch it for another, equally monstrous trait. E.g. a Naphil's tail might be replaced by another set of horns, or scales elsewhere on the body. Or pointed ears might be replaced by a reptile's tympanum. Pricing may be either 20 coins or 60, depending on whether the 'function' of the trait is on the same level or not. For example, trading the pointed shape of ears for scales would cost 20 coins, but trading that for functional wings or a prehensile tail would cost 60 coins.
Hang on, I thought she could grant a spell to make wings disappear at will?
Correct. Wings are an exception to the above rule. For 60 coins, Mana can grant characters the ability to have their wings turned into one of two things: Either a fully detailed, visually accurate tattoo of the wings in question, or fully detailed scarring resembling the wings in question. Both of these options would take up most of the character's back and shoulders, as if the wings have been flattened up against their skin. This would count as a body mod in the permanent monster changes category.
And a disguise ability that would allow a character to look human for a certain amount of time?
Yes, Mana can do that too. However, it would be a visual trick only, and touching the monster would reveal the hidden features.
What about hunger or hunting instincts? Can Mana remove or exchange any of that?
No. Hunger is always baked into a monster and the feeling of it (not the hunger itself) can only be suppressed through god boons. Removing hunting instincts or swapping them out with something else isn't something that Mana can do either.
About the permanent monster type change, can we have the mods choose from more than 7 options?
Yes. However, this would still cost you 100 coins.
Can I buy a second monster form, with the ability for my monster to swap between the two?
No, this isn't a power Mana would be able to grant. However, the Fog does have capabilities like this. It would be the 'major spell' that she would grant. Starting with Fog tier 3, it would be possible to access a second monster form under certain conditions, with a priest tier power having less limitations as well as more monster options.
Can I buy a taur-form for my monster? So the lower body would be monstrous, but the upper half human?
Yes! Both as a permanent body mod and as a transformative ability with certain limitations, this would cost 80 coins. Please note some monster types can already transform their body on their own (Slimes, Shades, etc.) and would not need to purchase an additional form to achieve the effect. We would also like to specify that the bottom half of the taur cannot be completely unrelated to the monster type: we would allow a manticore to have four cat legs but not four spider legs, for instance.
Can Mana change my monster's height?
Yes, she can! This would be a body mod. For an increase or decrease in height by 1-6 inches, it would be 20 coins. For an increase or decrease in height by 7-12 inches, it would be 40 coins. For 1-2 feet, it would be 80 coins. For monsters with mandatory height changes, these changes should apply across all forms, barring Travel/Stealth forms (i.e. if a Pooka's Travel form is a rat, it would remain the size of a rat).
