WEREWOLF

◉ NAVIGATION

WEREWOLF
BASIC INFO

Werewolves are half-man, half-wolf creatures that normally transform only during a full moon. In Ryslig, however, Werewolves transform every night at sunset and will not change back until they see the sun. When not transformed, they retain most of their normal human appearance.

MANDATORY CHANGES

● Werewolves must take on all the mandatory changes (plus whatever optional ones the player desires) once the sun has gone down, and during Fog days. They will not change back to their human form until they have seen the sun.

● Werewolves retain most of their normal human appearance when not transformed during the day. However, a few minor physical traits such as a tail, extra hairy arms or wolf ears may still manifest even in their day form.

● Upper and lower canine teeth elongated into sharp fangs.

● Wolf-like pointed ears.

● Fur on the back, shoulders, and arms.

● Clawed hands and feet with pads on the bottom.

● A strong bite. Werewolves have powerful jaws, which makes them capable of biting through thicker materials such as bones.

● Sharpened senses. Werewolves have much better hearing than a normal human, and their sense of smell is strong enough to pick up many distinct scents and follow them.

● A weakness to silver as well as the flower known as wolfsbane. Direct contact will be painful and ingesting wolfsbane or being shot with a silver bullet can kill.

● Post-transformation fatigue. While Werewolves are very energetic in their wolf forms, they tend to have major fatigue when turning back to human form. Thus, they tend to be nocturnal.

● The need to feed on human flesh. Werewolves are strictly carnivores when it comes to their monstrous feedings and prefer to hunt their own food down. This need may be satiated by accepting it from others, but more often than not, the Werewolf will be compelled to choose their own targets for a fresh kill.

● A strong hunting instinct. When Werewolves are hungry, they will develop the urge to chase prey down. Werewolves usually hunt by chasing humans down, then sinking their teeth into the exhausted body to rip and tear at it.
OPTIONAL CHANGES

● Any psychological changes are welcome! Feel free to pull from real world myths, canon creatures of this variety, or any other source!

● A fog form. This is an exaggerated version of their monster form that appears only during the fog and is a chance to make your monster more "horrifying" during the fog.

● Travel form: the ability to shift into a full wolf form at any time, or any other animal the monster design is based on. In this form, the character will look like a normal canine and will be able to travel faster. However, they will also be more vulnerable.

● A Werewolf may have canine features or markings while they're in their day form as long as there's a significant contrast between their day and night forms.

● Fur on any other part of the body.

● Bright yellow eyes. Other eye colors may manifest in a Werewolf on occasion, but yellow is most often seen.

● The rest of the teeth elongated into fangs.

● A wolf tail.

● Longer arms for the ability to run fast on all fours.

● Any number of wolf-like facial features, ranging from mild to fully lupine.

● Certain Werewolves can jump very high, allowing them to leap onto rooftops or small buildings with ease.

● A bite that can cause a deadly infection in humans if not treated.

● Lunar influence. Some Werewolves are affected by the phases of the moon, gaining more power when the moon is full or near-full. These Werewolves will also find their impulses and wolf instincts harder to control during a full or near-full moon, however.

During the full moon, Werewolves gain an extra shapeshifting ability. During the day, Werewolves can voluntarily shift into their night form regardless of whether the fog is out. When the full moon rises in the evening, Werewolves can voluntarily shift into a "full moon form," which can be up to 1.5x the Werewolf's normal size, and may be more visually extravagant than the Werewolf's usual night form. This form may last until the full moon's set again, or when the Werewolf decides to end it prematurely.

● Moments of high emotion can cause the Werewolf to partially or fully transform into their night form, depending on the intensity of the emotion. Transformations due to high emotion can only last continuously for an hour, and will cause heavy strain on the monster the longer it continues.

● A pack instinct. The Werewolf, in wolf form, will feel more inclined to join up with other Werewolves, sometimes taking on different roles and leadership dynamics for hunting.

ALLOWED SPECIES

Despite their name, Werewolves can resemble any type of canine. Wolves, Tanuki, Foxes, Hyenas, Tasmanian wolves, Jackals, Dogs, Coyotes, Dhole, Weasels, Otters, Mongoose and Meerkats are allowed. Think in the subfamilies Mustelinae, Lutrinae, Ictonychinae. Similar creatures from a character's homeworld are also allowed.
