FAERIE
|
Faeries are generally considered benevolent bringers of good fortune, but they are some of the most physically diverse creatures on Ryslig and tend to be quite deceptive. They range from lovely but manipulative to insectoid and downright parasitic. Any type of flying insect is welcome. Artwork generously donated and submitted by players as an example of this monster in various forms. This can give you an idea of what you can do with this monster. Want to donate? (frozen comment) FAQ
FEEDING:
Can Faeries feed by dragging unconscious or injured humans into the ring, or do their victims have to enter it willingly?
That's up to you.
Does the energy drain activate automatically once the victim is inside the ring, or does the Faerie have to do something else to activate it?
That's also up to you! If you'd like your Faerie to have to put conscious effort into activating the drain, go for it.
Is the energy drain always lethal, or is it possible to stop it before the victim dies?
Some Faeries may be able to stop the drain in time with enough practice, but it's very difficult to accomplish. It may not be merciful toward the human victim either, as the experience is almost certain to leave them with severe physical and/or emotional trauma. Furthermore, a monster must always have a 'full' helping of human in order for their hunger to be satiated. They'll have to go out and find more victims.
Tell me more about the optional second mouth that serves as an alternative to energy feeding. How does it work?
Say you don't want to limit your Faerie to just energy feeding, and you'd like to offer them the option to eat meat as well. Then this second mouth may appear anywhere on their body. This extra mouth must be the one to consume the meat! If the Faerie ignores the second mouth and instead tries to eat human meat with their normal mouth, it won't sate any of their hunger.
MONSTER ABILITIES:
My character has three Faerie rings set up for teleportation to reach max capacity, and creates a new one elsewhere. What happens?
When a Faerie creates a fourth circle, one of the previous three has to disappear, but they can choose which one. To reactivate it the Faerie would have to go back to that location and create a new one.
Are the mushrooms a Faerie grows for their circles edible?
Yes! But they taste and behave like normal mushrooms. Sorry, no special hallucinogenic effects whatsoever.
Can Faeries grow individual mushrooms?
Yes.
What is the widest diameter a Faerie circle can be?
They can lie down in it if they bend their legs slightly, but that's as large as they can be.
Can a Faerie allow other monsters to use their Faerie rings for teleportation or are only Faeries able to use that feature?
The Faerie must be with them in order to teleport, and the rings will not work without their creator present.
Can a Faerie make a Faerie ring within a Faerie ring and then get caught in an infinite loop when trying to teleport?
Yes they can. The constant teleportation forces would kill them in under an hour (if only to spare them being stuck there until they die of dehydration) unless something outside damaged the rings.
When a Faerie shrinks, do their clothing/possessions shrink with them?
That's up to you!
Does it get harder to hear a Faerie's voice the smaller they are, or is it always the same volume as if they were normal-sized?
Whatever is most fun for you!
If a Faerie were to shrink, fly into another person's mouth (or other orifice) and return to normal size, how much damage would they cause? And how much damage would they take?
How much damage they take would be up to you. How much damage is caused when it's done to a fellow monster is something to talk about with the other player. It's a guaranteed way to kill a normal human, that's for sure.
When Faeries are using their faerie dust to turn someone into a bug, can they choose what bug that person becomes?
For humans, yes. For monsters, please talk to their player first.
When a Faerie turns someone into an insect for an hour, can that insect speak at all?
This is up to you and any other players involved! Though we imagine humans would have much more difficulty talking as a bug than monsters.
Can the bug-transforming dust be used on animals?
Yes.
Does the optional amnesia ability induce temporary complete amnesia in a person for an hour, or does it induce permanent amnesia of anything that happened within an hour's time span?
Faerie dust induces temporary amnesia in the person for the hour, to the degree you (and any other involved players) wish. No amnesia would remain past the hour.
Functional Faerie dust can only be created once a day, but what about non-magic Faerie dust?
Sure! Faeries can create non-magic dust whenever.
Can the hypnosis include illusions for the victim?
Yes, they can. At most, the Faerie could use this ability once or twice a day with intense, thorough practice. It would last for 15 minutes tops, and once the hypnosis ends, the illusion fades like a brief, unwanted daydream.
MONSTER BODIES AND CHANGES:
Tell me more about what happens when Faeries tell lies.
Lying is not impossible, but it causes extreme emotional pain whenever it's done. Faeries hate themselves intensely-- often to the point of physical illness, such as severe nausea, fevers, and chills -- whenever they outright lie. They will often follow up a lie with several blurted truths to rectify the situation. This aversion can be worked through with years of practice. It does count as a weakness and can be changed with coin rewards.
Can Faeries have a proboscis? And/or pedipalps? Mandibles?
Yes and yes. Mandibles are fine, as long as they're purely aesthetic and don't add any bite power.
Are multiple sets of antennae okay as long as they don't serve any extra functional purpose?
Sure!
Can Faeries see UV light?
As long as it's just used for aesthetics, yes. Faeries don’t have any tactical sight advantage, they simply see an extra spectrum of color.
As Faeries are largely insects, would Faeries therefore have detectable pheromones? Not to say that it would necessarily do anything, just have a certain smell.
As long as the pheromones serve no function beyond the smell, it's allowed.
Is it alright to have two small extra mouths instead of one big one?
Yes, but they would be forced to work together to eat humans. So, you can’t just nibble with one of the mouths. On top of that, they must function in unison! One cannot be closed while the other is open, for example.
Are Faeries capable of talking through their second mouths, or would that ability have to be bought through Mana?
Faerie mouths can breathe and make basic noises like grunting. They are not capable of speech without an additional upgrade, such as through Mana.
If I wanted to use a beetle as inspiration, can my character still have the harder outer shell covering the wings when they're not outstretched?
As long as the outer shell does not provide any additional defense for them and is purely for aesthetic purposes, then it should be fine.
