SHADE

BASIC INFO Shades are incorporeal creatures with a connection to the night. They are known for their shapeshifting abilities and much like Demons, they feed on souls. MANDATORY CHANGES ● The Shade's default form is a shadowy being with glowing eyes that can pass through walls and other solid objects, but still cause harm to living beings. It can vary in shape and size (but no larger than 7' tall). ● A shadow-like complexion that ranges from dark grey to black. Other colors can be subtly involved, as long as it's still dark. ● The ability to shapeshift. All features will retain their shadow-like appearance and be purely aesthetic. This includes the ability to stretch and shrink within realistic boundaries (no more than 3 feet). Maintaining these features takes concentration and the Shade will default back to their regular shadow form if concentration is broken. ● The ability to take a solid form. Maintaining this solidity takes concentration and the Shade will default back to their incorporeal form if concentration is broken. By combining this with the shapeshifting ability, one could attempt to mimic their old human form, but they would still be a shadowy figure with glowing eyes. ● Glowing eyes of any color, so long as the color is constant. White is most often seen within Shades. ● A shadowy aura. ● Telekinetic ability. Shades can move objects with their minds. The heavier the object, the more exhausting it will be. ● The ability to possess others. Unlike Demons, Shades can't take full control of a possessed person, so the victim will remain aware of their surroundings even as their body moves against their will. This ability can only be used for a maximum of one cumulative hour a day when it comes to objects or beings larger than the average cat. ● A weakness to light. Direct exposure to sunlight will always cause a Shade to slowly diminish in size until it disappears. The natural inclination of Shades is to come out at night or stay in the shadows. ● Improved night vision. ● The need to feed on human souls. The Shade accomplishes this by reaching into a person and tearing their soul out. Although the human's body remains alive after the spell is complete, they will essentially be in a coma. [back to top] OPTIONAL CHANGES ● Any psychological changes are welcome! Feel free to pull from real world myths, canon creatures of this variety, or any other source! ● A fog form. This is an exaggerated version of their monster form that appears only during the fog and is a chance to make your monster more "horrifying" during the fog. ● Stealth form: the ability to possess any small object for a limitless amount of time, and as often a day as they like. This object must be no larger than the average cat. The Shade may move around in this object as freely as its anatomy will allow and be protected from light. However, direct sunlight often makes shades more nervous the longer they are out in it, and they tend to prefer shadows. They will also be more vulnerable and easily exhausted. ● Sharp teeth. ● Claws. ● Prehensile, shadowy tendrils coming from the back and can shrink away and "hide". ● The ability to disrupt electronics at will and cause them to malfunction or short circuit. ● The ability to levitate up to twice their weight. ● The ability to become invisible for short periods of time. ● Shades can take on the pain of others through physical contact. A touch to the arm will ease pain in that area to an extent. If they want to remove pain from someone completely, they can possess them to temporarily feel it themselves, instead. ● A vengeful nature. Shades have a hard time letting perceived slights against them go without punishment. [back to top] ALLOWED SPECIES Shades do not have any particular animal to be based upon.
