SLIME
BASIC INFO

Slimes are amorphous, viscous monsters of Ryslig. With extraordinary physical resilience and the ability to shape their bodies in infinite ways, Slimes make unrelenting predators whose feeding habits are the slick, slimy fuel of nightmares.

MANDATORY CHANGES

● Amorphous body. Slimes lack bones and other rigid structures through most—if not all—of their body, and can shape themselves as they see fit. Their default, "relaxed" shape may be that of a human, an animal, an object, any hodgepodge thereof, or no structured shape at all. However, they may have difficulty carrying their weight on narrow supports, so Slimes rarely opt for legged forms.

● A translucent body. Slime forms are semitransparent, so while you can see a person inside the Slime being digested, you wouldn't be able to see the person hiding behind them.

● Brightly colored slime, in any color.

● Ability to shapeshift. Slimes can adjust the shape and perceived size of their form. They may remove limbs or give themselves new ones, compress or expand their fluid to change apparent size, or take on the shape of something else. Slimes cannot gain abilities this way — shapeshifted wings are incapable of flight, for example. Their overall mass does not change regardless of appearance, and so become weaker and less stable the bigger they get.

● A nucleus. This serves as the "brain" or the "core" of the Slime and take any form, with the following restrictions:
♦ The nucleus can be located anywhere within their body, and can move from place to place.
♦ The nucleus is much less resilient than the rest of the Slime. If it is pierced or destroyed, the Slime will lose cohesion and die.
♦ The nucleus is between 2" and 6" inches in diameter, but cannot change size.

● High tolerance to physical harm. Since Slimes generally lack bones, muscles, and often skin, they are incredibly difficult to hurt through brute force.

● Slimes can regain lost or destroyed slime over the period of 1-3 weeks. During the fog, this time is reduced to 24 hours.

● "Puddle" form. Shapeshifting allows a Slime to become completely flat—including their nucleus—in order to slip under doors, through cracks, or into other small openings.

● The need to consume the fluids of humans. This can be blood, water, lymph, and/or other liquids found within the body.

OPTIONAL CHANGES

● Any psychological changes are welcome! Feel free to pull from real world myths, canon creatures of this variety, or any other source!

● A fog form. This is an exaggerated version of their monster form that appears only during the fog and is a chance to make your monster more "horrifying" during the fog.

● Stealth form: the ability to take the form of a slug or a snail. In this form, the character will look like a normal slug/snail and will be able to blend into their surroundings most effectively. However, they will also be more vulnerable and will find it difficult to move around without assistance.

● Frills, eye stalks, and/or other appendages taken from acceptable real-world animals. This can include stingers, which may be venomous.

● Leaving a trail or residue as they move. This excess fluid is incredibly sticky and can immobilize humans and monsters. However, it can be washed away with water.

● Poisonous exterior. We don't recommend licking Slimes, as their outermost mucus can inflict paralysis or nerve pain in the victim.

● The ability to change color based on mood or other factors. For instance, a Slime that is very cold might turn blue.

● A shell, in the style of an allowed species. The Slime can retreat into it defensively, but cannot shapeshift the shell, and would lose their ability to puddle as a result.

● Slimes may have the ability to see out of their entire body as long as the quality of their vision is heavily compromised. If a Slime opts to see out of their entire body, they will no longer have traditional vision.

● Weakness to water. Slimes will dissolve when submerged in water, while being hit with water makes it difficult for them to maintain body cohesion. They become nervous and fearful when near standing water, and are paranoid about rainfall.

● Slower movement. The Slime's traveling speed is slower than that of all other monsters, and they may have difficulty navigating rough terrain, including stairs.

● Faulty memory. Slimes are scatterbrained and have trouble holding onto short-term information.

● Lack of physical strength. Slimes with this weakness are often powerless to affect the world around them, unable to open doors or manipulate heavy objects. In return, these Slimes must lack a nucleus, and as a result are invulnerable to physical damage.

● Hunger for the flesh or meat of humans. This replaces the hunger for fluids. Slimes with this appetite will need to swallow the victim into their body and allow it to digest over the course of several days.

ALLOWED SPECIES

Slimes do not have to be based on real-world animals, but any gastropods, jellyfish, or sea cucumbers/nudibranchs are acceptable species to draw traits from.
