NYMPH
|
|
Nymphs are plant creatures with a strong connection to nature. They thrive in forests and any other sort of plant-heavy environment. While they may look gentle and beautiful, their nature is closer to a venus fly-trap than a delicate flower and they draw their nutrients primarily from humans. Any type of plant is welcome. This includes fungi. Artwork generously donated and submitted by players as an example of this monster in various forms. This can give you an idea of what you can do with this monster. (frozen comment) FAQ
MONSTER ABILITIES:
What exactly does taking control of other plants entail?
Nymphs are able to bend and manipulate nearby plants to their will, making them grow or twist or even wither as they want. The sky is the limit, the world your oyster!
Can Nymphs communicate with and/or feel what plants feel at all? What are the limits?
Nymphs are able to empathize with plants to the point of understanding that they don't like when people step on them or block their light. However, Nymphs would struggle to have an actual conversation with plants, just as any monster of an animal type would be unable to have a conversation with other animals. Nymphs' empathy with other plants has a wide range of other uses, such as plant signals from their surroundings letting them know things like 'this soil here holds many nutrients' or 'this other plant is invading my terrain and messing with my own roots'.
Does a Nymph's connection with nature allow them to identify plant types and specific traits?
Yes, they could identify types of plants, including whether or not one is poisonous!
Can a Nymph in plant form have their senses shift to something more plant-like, such as an ability to sense vibrations in the air or temperature/humidity/light changes?
Yes, but these would replace their humanoid senses, such as smell and hearing. This would only apply to their plant form, and the moment they shift back to typical humanoid Nymph, their usual senses would return.
Does one Nymph's plant healing ability have any effect on another Nymph's wounded body?
This is up to player discretion. If it does work, it will drain the Nymph that is healing the other, forcing them to feed sooner.
What about dead plants? Can they revive those?
Nymphs are not able to revive dead plants, but they can heal plants that are near death or look dead.
Are Nymphs immune to plant toxins that would otherwise make a human sick if handled?
They could handle about 50% more than the average human or monster. So they would still get sick, just less than others, but no immunity. This also means that things that could kill people in 10 minutes would end up killing them in 20 and the like, or at least give them more chances of surviving.
[[Can (cactus) Nymphs shoot out needles if they get scared, but have them be otherwise harmless?
Unfortunately, the needles can't be used as projectiles. This would require an additional ability to be purchased from Mana, or received from a god. They can poke people who hug them, though.]]
MONSTER BODIES AND CHANGES:
Is there a limit to how many plant types we can mash together on one Nymph?
No limit!
Could the roots/vines be shaped like paws or bird feet instead of humanoid feet? Can they also have actual claws or talons then?
Nymphs may either have feet which are more humanoid in anatomy with true nails, or they may be roots which have been twisted into any kind of shape (such as bird feet or paws). When going the latter route, typical claws or talons made of keratin would be impossible, since roots are then the main composition of the feet.
Can a Nymph's legs be replaced with a tree trunk, forcing them to awkwardly move around on their root system, perhaps with help from vine tendrils?
Yes, that sounds fun!
Can a Nymph's roots also come from their fingers?
Yes!
How long can a Nymph's vines be, and how strong? Could a Nymph use their vines to hoist themselves up in the air?
Vines can be as long and as strong as you would like them to be, within reason, and may be prehensile. Remember, though, that the vines are part of the nymph, and are prone to fatigue! The more weight you carry, the more fatigued you are likely to become.
Would a Nymph be able to grow edible things on them, even if at a smaller size?
Yes, that's allowed.
What about medicinal plants/herbs? Would they hold more of a punch than those grown in nature since they're grown by/on a monster?
A Nymph could indeed have medicinal herbs and plants worked into the design. These would be just as effective as their natural counterparts.
Would it be feasible for Nymph bodies to produce capsaicin (spicy blood/sweat/whathaveyou to discourage other monsters from trying to take a bite out of them) or would this be an extra ability?
If your character's Nymph form is based upon a plant that produces capsaicin, your character may produce a mild version of it.
Can I plant-ify my Nymph internally as well? Sap instead of blood, vines wrapped around and integrated with organs, that sort of thing.
Yes, absolutely!
Is it okay to give Nymphs some minor skin bioluminescence, or is that something we'd need to use coins for?
Bioluminescent skin would be fine without using coins for.
Can Nymphs breathe CO2 and exhale O2 like real plants? And do they photosynthesize?
Yes and yes! Nymphs would not be able to survive in an oxygen deprived environment because plants do need oxygen to perform cellular respiration.
If someone plucked a bunch of their leaves, bit one of their hanging flowers in half, or etc. sort of "minor" damage, would that cause a Nymph pain?
This would be the rough equivalent of picking at skin. How much it would bother the Nymph is up to the player.
